Using Intuition to Build Self-Trust and Find Inner Peace

A few weeks ago, there was a blog post on building self-trust. One of the greatest tools in building self-trust is understanding and using your own intuition; this will begin the building blocks to achieving a peaceful life.

peaceful life

Intuition is the ability to understand or know something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning. It often feels like a gut instinct or an inner voice guiding you toward a decision or action, even when you can't explain exactly why.

Most of us talk about intuition, talk about our inner knowing, but very seldom act on it. We have been trained through society to ignore our intuition and to go with facts and to be logical, or at least I know I have.

My ultimate goal and intention is to live more intuitively each and every day, allowing the knowledge of a greater plan that is in store, even though I may not see it.

Using Intuition to Build Self-Trust and Inner Peace

Throughout my life, I've lived intuitively in an unknowing manner. A lot of what I do, whether it's work, cooking, tending to plants, or ideas, they're just things I know. No one taught me; it's just instinctive or intuitive.

Many times, I'm asked about recipes for something that I have cooked or baked, and unfortunately, I don't have a straightforward answer. I may use a recipe as a base or starting point, but I add or omit as I go.

That is part of listening and trusting my intuition. So much of my life, I have tried to stay on schedule to stay on plan. Often looking at people and not understanding how they could have their life plans set out so early and follow them so intently.

They always seemed to be happy and thriving. Whenever I tried to follow that same oath, I felt disconnected and lost. In fact, quite honestly, it causes me a bit of stress trying to meet everybody’s expectations and demands.

I am happiest and most content when I listen to myself and follow that direction. I used to think that acting on intuitive thoughts was being impulsive or reckless. However, what I've learned over the past year is that it's not impulsive or reckless; it's the opposite.

It's aligning with who you are actually meant to be and then finding peace within yourself. Once you find that peace within yourself, you can listen to your intuition without guilt or stress. And everything that you've ever wanted to manifest in your life begins to come true. When you reach this level of inner peace, you begin to adhere to the saying “I do not chase, I attract.” It becomes who you are.

How Embracing Your Inner Guidance Leads to Greater Confidence and Calm

inner peace

In a world that often values logic, planning, and evidence above all else, it’s easy to overlook the power of intuition. With many calling it woo-woo or magic, it’s easy to discount the idea of intuition. But tapping into our inner knowing can be a transformative tool. Cultivating self-trust and achieving a sense of serenity that logic alone cannot provide.

Let’s explore how listening to your intuition can help you build self-confidence and find peace within yourself. Leading to a life that feels authentic to you and no one else.

Understanding Intuition

Intuition is that immediate understanding or insight you get without consciously analyzing facts or reasons. It’s that gut feeling, that inner voice nudging you towards a path or decision, even if you can’t precisely explain why. Many people recognize this feeling, but few act on it, often because society teaches us to prioritize logic and concrete evidence over our instincts.

If there is no data, numbers, or statistics to plainly see, how do you trust a feeling? Especially if no one has done it before? Oftentimes, these people are mocked, going against the grain of society. You see it all the time in history.

Why We Ignore Our Intuition

From an early age, most of us are encouraged to trust facts, follow established plans, and rely on rational thinking. This conditioning can make us doubt our instincts or feel uncomfortable acting on them. I know from my own experience how difficult it can be to break free from societal expectations and truly listen to my inner guidance.

For years, I tried to fit into schedules and plans, always comparing myself to those who seemed to have their lives mapped out. However, trying to fit myself into a box only made me feel more disconnected from my own body. I was stressed and overwhelmed. I stopped trusting my intuition.

Societal norms don’t nurture intuitive ideas and label them as feelings, and feelings are fleeting. Ignoring these feelings can sometimes cause more harm than good. Have you ever gone to the doctor because something didn’t feel quite right, not that you were bleeding, had any broken bones, or had a lingering headache? You went because something felt “off”.

However, when you went and told the doctor how you felt, you were likely brushed off or given a quick common diagnosis. Enough of those encounters, and you stop trusting that “feeling”. Never getting the courage to continue following your intuition and possibly getting that correct diagnosis.

Living Intuitively for Inner Peace

When I reflect on my life, I see that the moments when I was happiest and most content were those when I followed my intuition. Whether it was in my work, cooking, tending to plants, or coming up with ideas, I often just knew what to do, even if no one had taught me. I rarely used strict recipes; instead, I let my instincts guide me. Acting on intuitive thoughts isn’t about being impulsive or reckless—it’s about aligning with your true self.

Over the past year, I’ve realized that living intuitively brings a sense of peace that schedules and plans cannot. When was the last time you felt inner peace? What were you doing? Were you listening to someone else’s expectations, or were you listening to your intuition?

Building Self-Trust Through Intuition

One of the greatest tools for building self-trust is understanding and using your intuition. When you act on your inner guidance, you reinforce the belief that you can rely on yourself. You stop second-guessing your choices and start trusting that you are capable of making decisions that are right for you. This self-trust leads to greater confidence and helps you attract the opportunities and experiences you desire, rather than chasing them.

Start with small, manageable choices. The goal is to make small choices that will compound over time. Next time you get that “gut” feeling, allow it to speak to you. Don’t try to nudge it away; become curious about it. Give yourself the same respect that you would give to someone else.

Finding Inner Peace

As you learn to listen to your intuition, you begin to let go of the anxiety that comes from trying to meet others’ expectations. You realize that there is a greater plan unfolding—one you may not see but can feel. Living intuitively allows you to find peace within yourself, as you trust that you’re moving in the right direction. This inner calm radiates outward, helping you navigate life’s challenges with grace and confidence.

There’s a peace in knowing that you have chosen a path no one needs to understand but you. Whether your job makes $100,000 a year or $45,000 a year, or whether you are a barista at a cute coffee shop or you own the coffee shop, listening to your intuition rewards you far greater than a paycheck or title.

That level of inner peace cannot be bought, but it can be found if you desire. You have tried ignoring your intuition. What do you have to lose if you let it lead?

Practical Steps for Embracing Your Intuition

  • Spend Time in Quiet Reflection: Meditation, journaling, or simply sitting in silence can help you tune in to your inner guidance.

  • Notice Your Gut Reactions: Pay attention to your initial feelings when faced with choices. Your intuition often speaks first.

  • Practice Acting on Intuitive Insights: Start with small decisions, and notice how things unfold when you trust yourself.

  • Let Go of Fear and Judgment: Remind yourself that intuition isn’t reckless—it’s your innate wisdom guiding you.

Ultimately, living intuitively is a journey of self-discovery. It’s about honoring your inner wisdom, trusting yourself, and allowing peace to flow into your life. When you embrace your intuition, you become aligned with who you’re meant to be—and everything you’ve wanted begins to find its way to you.

It’s time to stop living the script of someone else and start living your own script. You are worth living a life that makes you feel peace, a life of authenticity. No amount of money or corporate job title will matter if it was built on someone else’s idea for your life. It’s time to start listening to your own ideas.
